Christopher E. Smith spent forty years as an award-winning teacher of law, public policy, U.S. government & politics, and criminal justice at Michigan State University, the University of Akron, and the University of Connecticut-Hartford. ​He is the author of twenty-five books and more than 130 scholarly articles and book chapters. ​His varied experiences and qualifications include admission to practice law in Ohio (license currently inactive), Democratic candidate for Congress, and acting director of the Michigan Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence.
